About Peter L. Stone. Peter comes to BURN Fitness Studios with 40 years of clinical experience and practice in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. Peter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and began his professional career at New England Rehabilitation Hospital. His affinity for problem-solving Musculoskeletal problems led him to co-direct the Sports Conditioning Center in Chestnut Hill from 1978 to 1988, which was the first center to combine exercise and sports physiology with the rehabiliation of athletes of all ages. In 1988, he started his own practice (POST PT) that operated facilities in Brookline/Back Bay/Cohasset MA. In 1992, he developed an On-Site physical therapy service at Gillette the South Boston Manufacturing site. He developed a cost-effective model that benefited the employer and employee by providing immediate and convenient access to expert physical therapy care. This innovative approach has remained a successful benefit at Gillette for 25 years. Peter has also lectured internationally on exercise physiology and sports rehabilitation; developed post-op treatment protocols for surgeons and safe return to sport guidelines for Primary Care Physicians and Pediatricians.

Peter’s professional interests have blended nicely with his love of fitness. In 2004, he went through Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) training and took that screening process to develop a Golf Fitness and Exercise Prescription to The Country Club in Chestnut Hill. In 2005, he developed similar screening process for teenage runners. Annually, he screens and prescribes correctives exercise programs for Emerging Elites, an 8 week Running Program directed by Tracs Inc. that prepares high school track and field athletes for competitive running to improve performance with significantly reduced injury patterns. Peter has run 5 Boston Marathons and successfully completed the Pan Mass Challenge. He practices yoga regularly and trains daily for overall skeletal and cardiovascular fitness.

Peter has developed a unique approach to managing Musculoskeletal and Neuromuscular assessment and treatment that he calls the PSMFR system. A system for treating pain and dysfunction starts with assessing (1) Posture (2) Stability (3)Mobility (4) Function (5) Recovery. His treatment includes manual therapy, myofasical release, neuromuscular training, corrective exercise, and functional movement training.
