After investing the bulk of her energy into cheerleading for 7 years, and running track and field for 4, Akiera was searching for a new fitness outlet when she decided to become a Group Fitness Instructor. Born and raised in Westchester County, New York, she obtained her AFAA Group Fitness certification in early 2014. With some motivational techniques that she learned from instructing and her peers in the fitness community, she has reached every fitness aspiration she has set for herself thus far. Her instructing style can be best described as energetic and fun; for the most part, Akiera believes that if working out is consistently considered to be a chore, then you have yet to find the type of workout that motivates you.
An avid traveler, she hopes to hike Machu Picchu and climb Mount Kilimanjaro within the next two years. Akiera is also always on the lookout for new forms of exercise to incorporate into her classes and personal workouts, with one of her newfound passions being aerial silks (think Cirque Du Soleil). As a senior Human Services student at Northeastern University, concentrating in Public Health and Social Entrepreneurship, Akiera hopes to obtain a position in the cross-section between international development and public health, while continuing to teach fitness classes.
